Quality and Training Tips 11/15/2024

CT Updates and Reminders:

CT Angiography of the Head:

  • Effective immediately, Washington Radiology will no longer perform CT Angio Head exams at any of our locations.
  • CT Angio's for other body parts will continue to be performed, however, we do ask that you discontinue scheduling any CT Angio Head exams going forward.
  • This exam has been added to the Exams NOT Performed by WR job aid.
  • Click here to review the full list of exams we do not offer at Washington Radiology: Exams NOT Performed by WR | Washington Radiology Contact Center

CT Prep Instructions:

  • Please be sure to provide the CT prep found on the CT Codes and Scheduling Guidelines job aid based on  the reason for the patient's exam.
  • This is especially important for the CAP1, CAP2, CAP3 and CP1, CP2, CP3 exam types!
  • For example...
    • Patient is scheduling a CT Abdomen & Pelvic WITH Contrast and the reason for the exam is hematuria and flank pain...
    • Merge Prep Instructions will reflect the following information...
    • BUT...since the reason for exam is hematuria and flank pain, we should provide the prep instructions listed in the Playbook...
    • NOTE: This information is also available on the CT Exam Warning that populates just before the Questionnaire...
  • Check out the CT Codes and Scheduling Guidelines job aid here: CT - Codes and Scheduling Guidelines | Washington Radiology Contact Center

Medicare Insurance Reminder:

  • Please remember that when entering insurance information for patients with traditional Medicare Insurance, it is entered as Medicare of DC for all locations EXCEPT for Sterling.
  • For the Sterling location, please select Medicare of Virginia.
  • This information is located under the "Medicare" section of the Insurance Tips and Tricks job aid: Insurance Tips and Tricks | Washington Radiology Contact Center

Prior Images & Reports:

  • Did you know that images and reports are required for any related imaging done outside of a Washington Radiology location?
  • This rule applies to ALL exam types and is not exclusive to breast exams.
  • When scheduling new patients, please ask if they have had any prior related imaging done. If so, please ask them to bring their images and reports (we need both!) with them to their appointment.
  • If asked why these are necessary, advise the caller that our radiologists use them for comparison purposes and to evaluate changes since their last exam.
